About this event
Music and Movement invites you to actively experience the joy and many benefits of dance and song right from home—and in your favorite chair. People at all levels of physical abilities are able to take advantage of the opportunity to sing, move, and create in a warm and supportive interactive environment. Music is drawn from classic Broadway shows and popular music that people know and love, from Irving Berlin to Jerry Herman, Rodgers and Hammerstein to Fats Waller, the Gershwins to Lennon and McCartney.
Co-teacher Roy Barber is at the keyboard and leads participants in several songs during each one-hour class, all with lyrics displayed on screen. Easy-to-do movement sequences are inspired by a variety of dance forms and focus on gently engaging all parts of the body. And you can also exercise your creativity in the improvisational group movement that ends each class. The movement material is based on the Dance for PD, a program developed by Mark Morris Dance Group and the Brooklyn Parkinson Group. Co-teacher Robert Sacheli is a teaching artist in the program. The class, which is done fully seated, is appropriate and fully adaptable for people at a variety of levels of physical abilities. People living with memory challenges can also enjoy the classes. No dance or musical experience is required. And family members are welcome to join in the fun.
The class is donation-based, but the first session you attend is free. Email robertsacheli@comcast.net to register and get the Zoom information. Registration closes at 10 a.m. the day of class. Sponsored by Chevy Chase At Home.
