Our Story

Chevy Chase At Home is part of the nation-wide Village movement of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” that started in Beacon Hill, Boston in 2002 when a group of neighbors came together to change their experience of aging. This movement led the way for a more economically efficient model for aging that improves the quality of life for all of us.

Naomi Kaminsky and Joan Urban introduced the Village concept to Chevy Chase neighbors and friends and started Chevy Chase At Home. The organization was incorporated in 2009. Since then, operations have evolved from kitchen table, to garage, to a small office.

Two dedicated staff, our Executive Director and Member and Volunteer Programs Manager, now manage and lead the day-to-day operations of this small community-based organization with an amazing team of dedicated and caring volunteers and a Board of Directors.

The village movement is growing. Villages like CC@H have been proven to enhance the quality of life for older adults and are part of a holistic approach to building resilient, longevity ready communities. Numerous studies have shown that older adults wish to remain in their communities as they age and villages can play an important role in making that possible. There are now over 280 villages in the United States with over 80 in the DC Metro area region. Each village is managed and run independently.

We invite you to be a part of our ongoing story. Join CC@H today as a member, volunteer or supporter to build a more connected, joyful, and caring community as we grow older together in Chevy Chase, MD.
