Nate Billig with his book cover

Join us to hear Dr. Nathan Billig discuss his memoir “Untangling Lives: A Psychiatrist Remembers.” Dr. Billig was a founding member of the Board of Directors and past president of Chevy Chase At Home, as well as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Billig grew up in New York City, attended Queens College of the City University of New York, and the Upstate Medical University. He trained in psychiatry at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center/Albert Einstein Medical Center and Georgetown University.

In his memoir, Dr. Billig discusses several themes, based on his long career as a clinician, researcher and educator in psychiatry. He stresses not only the importance of untangling patients’ lives, but also the necessity for therapists to be aware of the narratives of their own lives so they can separate them from those of their patients. “Untangling Lives” brings the reader into the lives and struggles of four "patient" case studies, lining those up with the author’s own psychiatric explorations.

Dr. Billig’s book is an accessible, personal and compassionate look at the need to recognize losses and other traumas so that they don’t become life-long themes.

Mark Nadel, a former CC@H board member, will moderate the session.

Chevy Chase At Home is delighted to co-sponsor this program with Bethesda Area Metro Village and Bradley Hills Village.
