This talk sponsored by the Barbican Library in London will be an informative, but light-hearted look at Christmas from its origins as a pre-Christian festival right up to the modern-day commercialized celebration. The speaker will look at Victorian times when Christmas was effectively reinvented, partly by Charles Dickens and “A Christmas Carol”, and will investigate Christmas during two world wars! Illustrated with pictures and readings and carols (so bring your voice!). (Note: this is in the UK, so it is happening at 7:30 AM EST).
