 Home Safety for Seniors

If you are a senior or a caregiver for a senior, save April 1 on your calendar for a special 90-minute session about Home Safety for Seniors. Section 3 is sponsoring this event, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Room (room 106) at Chevy Chase United Methodist Church. The talk will feature Kate Elkins, who holds a Master's Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.

Kate has been a volunteer EMT and paramedic in Montgomery County for the past 18 years. She teaches Emergency Medical response, CPR, First Aid and introduction to Public Health at Montgomery College. She also teaches at other locations in the greater Washington area and she is passionate about finding a better way for our seniors to live safely and independently. “It’s more than just grab bars in the bathroom,” says Elkins.

The class will go over some of the ways in which you can make your living environment safer for you and protect yourself from falls, one of the most common problems facing the elderly. The event is free, and while your smoke detectors may be working, and you might even have grab bars in the shower…there are many other small changes you can make to assure yourself a safer home environment. So join us!
